11+ Does The Moon Orbit Around Earth Equator Gif. The moon orbits around the earth in a roughly circular orbit which is not exactly over the equator. A visualization of how the moon orbits earth, explaining why we always see the same side facing us.
This is the plane around which a satellite's orbit precesses: Everyone knows the moon orbits the earth and that the earth orbits the sun. Earth's apogee distance from the sun is 152.1 million km, and its perigee distance is 147.1 million km.
I understand the earth/sun relationship, and how the tilt of our axis causes the sun to be (apparently) higher and lower in the sky at different times of the year, but does.
The moon is tidally locked to the earth as they orbit the sun together, with each revolving around the barycenter of the system approximately every 27 days. As the moon orbits earth, earth orbits the sun. Without the moon dominating this picture, the earth's tides would be much simpler, but importantly much weaker. But if the moon rotates around the equator, then wouldn't it always be the same height in the sky, for any particular position on earth?
